Case Study: Chef Dominique Leach

  • 01. Challenge:

    A- Known as one of the most exciting BBQ chefs in her hometown of Chicago, IL, Dominique Leach is a classically trained chef turned nationally recognized pitmaster.

    B- Her expertise in soulful food would earn her a spot on The Food Network’s show CHOPPED, a judge on Food Network Canada FIRE MASTERS, recognition as the “Best Barbecue in Chicago” by Good Morning America, as well as a full brick-and-mortar home for Lexington Betty Smokehouse on the South Side of Chicago following a pilot project to help promote black-owned businesses in the region.

    C- We were tasked with starting Chef Dominique Leach's social media account and developing a strategy that would showcase her expertise in BBQ, cooking, and highlight her personal brand beyond her restaurant, Lexington Betty Smokehouse.

  • 02. Research:

    A- We conducted several interview-like meetings with Dominique Leach to get a deeper understanding of her personal brand story, values, goals, and target audience.

    B- We analyzed the competitive landscape and user behavior on existing social media accounts of other chefs and food influencers.

    C- Using this information, we developed a social media strategy that would differentiate Chef Dominique Leach from her competitors and connect with her audience in a meaningful way.

  • 03. strategy:

    A- We developed a strategy to build Chef Dominique Leach as a brand, celebrity chef and inspirational figure.

    B- We did this by creating a content strategy with 4 different sub strategies:

    -Story: Digging Deeper: a video series that explores Dominique's personal journey as a black, queer woman in the culinary industry, showcasing her vulnerable side and offering a glimpse into her unique story of triumph over personal struggles.

    -Expertise: we created content that highlighted Dominique Leach's proficiency in BBQ, cooking, and her distinction as the sole female pitmaster in Chicago. We placed special emphasis on her TV appearances and nominations.

    -Product line & restaurant: our content strategy aimed to promote Dominique's product line across all 44 Mariano's store locations by creating engaging and charismatic content that captures her brand personality. To help achieve this, we employed influencer and collaboration marketing to maximize the reach of her products and restaurant.

    -Inspirational figure: we showcased Dominique as an inspirational leader, who not only uplifted fellow black women chefs in the community, but also initiated and sustained crucial conversations concerning the challenges faced by black people in the culinary industry.

    A- We executed the social media strategy by creating high-quality content that accurately reflected Chef Dominique Leach's personal brand and resonated with her audience.

    B- We used social media analytics to track the performance of the content and make adjustments as needed to ensure maximum engagement.
